Portland is Looking Up!
In the spirit of the popular attraction at Jantzen Beach, the newest addition to the Portland skyline is "Hero", a 200 foot tall steel roller coaster. The longest, fastest, tallest roller coaster in Oregon will have people visiting from all over the Pacific Northwest. Though intimidating to look at, it has just the right amount of terror for roller coaster extremists, but mild enough for all to enjoy. Riders will be given a thrilling tour of the Rose Quarter and a stunning view of Portland. During colder, wetter months, the coaster can still operate thanks to clear shells that can easily be attached to each car. The roller coaster will partially be powered by solar cells on the roof of One Center Court nearby. Hero will serve as a visual attraction for nearby downtown, a mere Max ride away. It will also help attract conventions to the area, bolstering nearby hotel occupancy, and the local economy.
The roller coaster design does not interfere with the architecture of the Memorial Coliseum or the Rose Garden Arena. It would traverse the open spaces between the buildings and speeding through trees. This concept is based on the popular Tokyo Dome City in Japan, where a coaster towers over an entertainment district in the heart of the city.
Below is a 3D rendering of what a possible roller coaster in the Rose Quarter could look like. Feel free to raise your hands on the drops.
