The City of Portland asked for suggestions of what to do with the Memorial Coliseum and Rose Quarter. Many exciting ideas have been suggested and a roller coaster will compliment any one of them. The largest roller coaster in Oregon will be a magnet to the area from all over the Pacific Northwest. Tourism and conventions will increase, which will bring more revenue to the city. Most importantly, a thrilling new attraction will be available to the residents of Portland. Portland has a tradition of roller coasters, beginning with the original Council Crest park to the more recent Jantzen Beach Amusement Park. A roller coaster, funded by private investors and sponsorships NOT tax dollars, will create a new source of revenue for whatever services the city sees fit: schools, healthcare, bike lanes, etc.Building an attraction to entice visitors is not a new concept at all. Seattle built the Space Needle. Lloyd Center built an ice skating rink. So why not a roller coaster?
The heart of this proposal is that a roller coaster fits with any plan the city approves. It will serve as an additional attraction and benefit whatever facility the city sees fit to put at the Coliseum.
