Dear Mayor Sam Adams:
I am writing to ask you to support the proposed roller coaster at the Rose Quarter as part of any redevelopment project you approve (see: www.pdxcoaster.com). This is an innovative, exciting and farsighted approach to creating revenue for future City projects. It builds on the Portland legacy of Jantzen Beach and other successful venues around the world such as the Mall of America, Tokyo Dome City, and Universal CityWalk. The roller coaster will be the landmark beacon for all of Portland to see.
Bringing people to this part of town is an important project for the city. To accomplish this, a one-of-a-kind, world-class roller coaster will increase tourism, conventions, and revenue. By building the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the Pacific Northwest, people will travel from all over the Northwest and beyond to take a ride. Private companies make millions of dollars a year on standalone roller coasters and the City of Portland has an opportunity to do the same. With a projected annual revenue of $16 million, based on 2009 Portland tourism data, this is revenue the city can not afford to turn down.
The Rose Quarter redevelopment represents an important step in the evolution of our city. Whatever project is approved for that site, a roller coaster would fit and serve as an additional attraction to the area. I urge you to look at the development website: www.pdxcoaster.com. Become a fan on Facebook. Imagine all the benefits this project could bring to Portland. This is a chance to spur economic development and re-energize the Portland eastside in a way that no other proposal can.
Thank you for your support of the Portland Roller Coaster.
Sincerely,
